Countryside Wine Tasting with Local Family & Food Pairing

4.8 (208 verified reviews)

About This Experience

This private 3-hour tour takes you from Rome to a historic wine estate in the Frascati countryside for a guided visit and tasting. Eternal City private and guided Tours runs it with pickup included, and it holds 4.8 from 208 GetYourGuide reviews. For two people on the option for up to four, it starts from $139 per person.

A driver collects you from an eligible spot in Rome, and the itinerary lists the drive at about 20 minutes. At the estate you spend around 2 hours with a winery host. You see the 17th-century buildings and the underground caverns lined with French oak barrels, and hear how winemaking in the Frascati area has changed since Roman times.

The tasting is a selection of estate wines served with local food pairings, freshly baked bread and extra virgin olive oil. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free alternatives may be available if you tell the operator about dietary needs when you book. The car is air-conditioned with Wi-Fi, and the driver takes you back to Rome afterwards.

This tour suits couples and small groups who want a short, private taste of the Castelli Romani without a coach or train. It is a tasting with snacks, not a full lunch. One low-rated reviewer felt the vineyard walk was very brief before moving to the tasting room for three glasses, so do not expect a long walk through the vines.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.8/5 by 208 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

The wine tasting experience itself was amazing. We learned so much about different wines. I am not a fan of olive oil, but they presented us with the best tasting olive oil that I ever tasted. I even bought a bottle to bring home. What I didn't like is that we were waiting for the driver to pick us up. I private van pulled up in front of us. I approached the driver and asked who he was there to pick-up. He said Mr. John something. after a few minutes my phone ranged. It was the driver who was parked in front of us. I did not appreciate that the driver wasn't given my correct name. I am AL which is nowhere close to John. The driver was very good. He was friendly and also a good driver.

Amazing, quiet and refreshing experience wine tasting after a few hot and chaotic days in Rome. The driver picked us up directly from our hotel, and we had a private table overlooking the vineyard with a sommelier, snacks, and lovely wine (of course). Highly recommend this experience for a break from city life.

Right from the start, we were made to feel like we were the only 2 people that mattered. Beautiful setting and lovely presentation of wine & food. We were WOWed.
