Trains from Termini: times, frequency and the tour train
Regional trains to Frascati leave from Roma Termini and run non-stop. Trenitalia’s booking system shows journeys of 30 to 31 minutes, for example 07:35 arriving 08:05, 08:54 arriving 09:24 and 11:54 arriving 12:24. The first train of the day leaves at 05:49 and takes about 34 minutes.
On weekdays, a timetable lists 18 direct trains between 05:49 and 21:54, and from 08:54 most of them leave at 54 minutes past the hour. That gives you about one train an hour.
Sundays are thinner. For Sunday 18 October 2026 the Trenitalia system showed seven direct departures: 07:35, 09:54, 11:54, 13:54, 15:54, 17:54 and 19:54. That is about one every two hours, and the last direct train out of Termini left at 19:54. Expect a similar pattern on other Sundays, and check your own date in the Trenitalia app.
The wine tours are timed around a morning train, and each operator names one:
| Day | Train the operators name | Where you get off |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | 9:49 from Termini | Frascati |
| Saturday | 8:54 from Termini (Minardi farmhouse tours) or 10:14 (pasta class, Your Local X) | Frascati, or Tor Vergata for the 10:14 |
| Sunday | 9:54 from Termini | Frascati |
The 9:49 does not follow the usual :54 pattern, so confirm it in the app for your date before you rely on it. If it has moved, take the direct train before it, since the tours meet you at about 10:20, and message your host if you will be late.
On Saturdays, the pasta masterclass, the Your Local X tour and the Old Frascati half day all start at Tor Vergata, a second station for Frascati. The pasta class hosts say the 10:14 to Tor Vergata shows Cassino or Frosinone as its destination on the board, and that you cross the platforms through a glass tunnel to meet them.
Tickets, fares and validation
A single regional ticket from Roma Termini to Frascati costs €2.10, and a return trip costs €4.20 as two singles. The tour listings quote between €2 and €2.20, so expect small differences between what an operator writes and what you pay. For the Saturday start at Tor Vergata, the hosts quote €1.50.
You can buy tickets in the Trenitalia app or on its website, or from the ticket machines at Termini. One operator also suggests buying the return ticket at Frascati station when you are ready to go back, which saves you carrying a paper ticket all day.
How you validate depends on the ticket:
- Paper tickets: stamp the ticket in a validating machine at the station where your journey starts, before the train leaves. You can validate until 23:59 on the date printed on the ticket.
- After validation: a paper regional ticket is good for 4 hours, and you have to finish your journey within that time. Do not validate your return ticket in Rome in the morning; validate it at Frascati before the train home.
- App and online tickets: these are not paper tickets and need no validation.
At Termini, one operator reminds you to show your ticket to the security staff at the gates to reach the platforms. Only one Frascati tour on this site includes the train fare: the Frascati Wine Road from Rome: Tasting & Lunch, from $119 per person, about 6 hours from Termini and back. For every other tour, budget €4.20 a person on top of the tour price.
Arriving at Frascati station
Frascati station sits below the town. The center at Piazza Marconi is about 1.8 km away on foot, roughly 25 minutes uphill, climbing about 100 m. That matters for two reasons. The wine tours meet you in the square outside the station, so you do not need to walk up at all. And if you are visiting on your own, wear comfortable shoes and allow half an hour to reach the center.
Of the tours on this site, the one that gives you spare time in town is the Wine Tour & Farmhouse Lunch in the Vineyard, from $83 per person. Its pickup is at 11:45 outside the station, so on the 9:49 you arrive at about 10:20 with over an hour to walk up to the center, have a coffee and walk back down.

Prices are per person, checked in October 2026. The farmhouse half day and the $83 farmhouse lunch both give Piazzale Sandro Pertini, the square in front of the station, as the address. Our Frascati wine tours page compares what each of these tours includes, and the pasta making page covers the class in detail.
Getting back to Rome
Most Frascati tours finish in the early or mid afternoon and drop you back at the station or in the town center. The Old Frascati listing says its lunch ends by about 3 to 3:30 p.m., and that trains return to Rome every hour at 36 minutes past, until 9:36 p.m., and every other hour on Sundays. Take that as a guide and check the app, especially on a Sunday, when a missed train can mean a two-hour wait.
If you bought a paper ticket for the return, validate it at Frascati before you board. If you did not buy one, you can buy it at Frascati station or in the app.
By car or taxi
Frascati is about 20 km from Termini by road, roughly 33 minutes without traffic. Several tours accept guests who arrive by car or taxi. The farmhouse half day suggests arriving at about 10:05 to find parking near the station, the $83 farmhouse lunch meets car arrivals at the winery at 12:00, and the pasta class sends you the farmhouse address after booking.
Every one of these tours pours wine, and Italy’s general drink-driving limit is 0.5 g/l. For drivers under 21 or in their first three years with a licence, the limit is zero. If nobody in your group will skip the tasting, take the train or book a private tour with hotel pickup; our half-day wine tours page compares those, and the guide to wine day trips without a car covers every option.
Where Frascati is, and what you come for
Frascati is a town in the Castelli Romani, the towns of the Alban Hills (Colli Albani) outside Rome. Its white wine, made mainly from Malvasia on volcanic soil, has two DOCGs since 2011: Frascati Superiore and the sweet Cannellino di Frascati. Wine-growing here goes back to ancient Tusculum, the archaeological park the e-bike tour climbs to. Ariccia, another Castelli Romani town, is famous for porchetta, and Porchetta di Ariccia is an EU-protected product. In Marino, the Sagra dell’Uva grape festival runs over weekends from late September to early October; check the official program for next year’s dates.
A wine day here is short. A Tuscany day from Rome runs 11 to 12 hours on a coach; our Frascati vs Tuscany guide compares the two.
