How the Frascati Pasta Class Works
A morning train, a short drive to the farmhouse, an apron and a long lunch.
Train to Frascati
Take the regional train from Roma Termini, a non-stop ride of 30 to 31 minutes for €2.10 each way. The hosts suggest the 9:49 on weekdays and the 9:54 on Sundays. On Saturdays they meet you at Tor Vergata station after the 10:14 from Termini.
Make three pastas
A team member meets you outside the station and drives you about 5 minutes to the family farmhouse. Once you have your apron on, the chef teaches you to make ravioli with a local filling, fettuccine and maltagliati from scratch.
Taste and walk the vines
After the class comes a guided tasting of the family's Frascati Superiore DOCG whites and a red made from Cesanese, with their own olive oil, cheese and wine jam. Then you walk through the old vineyards and the cellar with a licensed wine taster.
Lunch, then back to Rome
Lunch is a large appetizer of seasonal local food followed by the three pastas you made, with Frascati wine and water. The hosts drive you back to the center of Frascati, where you can look around before the train to Rome.

PASTA CLASS GUIDE
The Frascati Pasta Class, Step by Step
What you cook, what you drink, how to get there and the alternatives if you would prefer not to cook.
If you want to cook as well as taste on a day out from Rome, book the Pasta Masterclass & Wine Tour in the Vineyard in Frascati. It costs from $100 per person, takes about 4 hours from Frascati station, caps the group at 15 and holds 4.9 from 183 GetYourGuide reviews (prices checked October 2026). You make three kinds of pasta with the farmhouse chef, taste the family’s wines and olive oil, walk the vineyards and eat your own pasta at lunch. The train from Roma Termini costs €2.10 each way and is not included.
Frascati is 30 to 31 minutes from Termini on a non-stop regional train, so the class fits into a morning and early afternoon. The other cooking on this site happens on Tuscany coach days of 11 to 12 hours, where you watch a pasta demonstration at the winery.
Quick picks
- To cook: the $100 pasta masterclass, three pastas, a tasting, a vineyard walk and lunch in about 4 hours.
- Same hosts, no class: the Half-Day Frascati Wine Tour with Farmhouse Lunch, from $100, a guided town walk, three wines and a chef’s lunch, 4.9 from 524 reviews.
- Shorter and cheaper: the Wine Tour & Farmhouse Lunch in the Vineyard, from $83 for 3 hours at the same farmhouse.
- Train ticket in the price: the Frascati Wine Road from Rome: Tasting & Lunch, from $119, with a town food walk and a trattoria lunch.
How the class runs
A member of the team meets you outside Frascati station and drives you about 5 minutes to the family farmhouse, which the family runs as a small wine museum among its vineyards and olive groves. You put on an apron and the chef walks you through three traditional local pastas made from scratch: ravioli stuffed with local ingredients, fettuccine and maltagliati. The chef shares the recipe and tips the listing says came from his grandmother.
The tasting follows the class. You try the family’s Frascati Superiore DOCG whites and Vagnolo, an IGP red made entirely from Cesanese, with their extra virgin olive oil, cheese and wine jam. A licensed wine taster then takes you through the old vineyards and the cellar and explains the farming methods the family still uses.
Lunch is the last stop. The chef serves a large appetizer of seasonal local food, then the three pastas you made, with Frascati wine and water. Afterwards the hosts drive you to the center of Frascati, where you have time to look around before the train back. The listing says trains to Rome leave about once an hour; on Sundays they run about every two hours, so check the return time before you set out.
What you drink, and why Frascati
Frascati is a white wine made mainly from Malvasia, which has to make up at least 70% of the blend. Frascati Superiore became a DOCG in 2011, the same year as Cannellino di Frascati, the sweet style. At lunch you drink Superiore from the hills around you: the vineyards lie on the northern slopes of the Colli Albani in volcanic soil, and wine has been made here since the days of ancient Tusculum.
Getting there
On weekdays the hosts suggest the 9:49 from Termini, and on Sundays the 9:54. Validate a paper ticket in the machines at Termini before you board; an app ticket needs no validation. Saturdays work differently: the hosts ask you to take the 10:14 to the second Frascati station, Tor Vergata (its departure board shows Cassino or Frosinone), where the hosts quote €1.50 for the ticket, then cross the platforms through the glass tunnel to meet them. The return train on Saturdays still leaves from Frascati station. If you would rather come by car or taxi, email the hosts after booking and they will send the farmhouse address. Our Rome to Frascati train guide covers tickets and timetables in detail.
Food needs
The chef’s lunch can be vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free friendly if you say so when you book. The listing does not describe a separate kitchen, so if you have celiac disease or a severe allergy, message the hosts before you pay.
If you would prefer not to cook
The same family runs two tours without a class. The farmhouse half day swaps the class for a guided walk through Frascati with a glass and a snack, and the $83 farmhouse lunch starts at noon at the farmhouse and lasts 3 hours. For a winery with Roman-era caves and lunch at an osteria in town, look at the Your Local X Frascati tour (from $122, up to 11 people) or the Old Frascati half day (from $106). The Old Frascati Food & Wine half day lists no pasta class.
If you have a whole day and want Tuscany, the Montepulciano and Pienza day with lunch and wines includes a fresh pasta demonstration at the winery, and the Pienza and Civita di Bagnoregio day includes a handmade pici demonstration. You watch on both. Our Tuscany wine tours page compares those long days.
Before you book
- Price: $100 per person plus €4.20 for the return train, or a little less on a Saturday via Tor Vergata.
- Group: up to 15 people, led by an English-speaking guide.
- Timing: about 4 hours from the station, so you are back in Rome in the afternoon.
- Cancellation: free up to 24 hours before the start.
- Driving: Italy’s limit is 0.5 g/l, and zero for drivers under 21 or in their first three years. Lunch comes with wine, so take the train.

"We had a fantastic day. The cooking class was excellent and the wine very nice in a very beautiful setting."
"We were very impressed with the course and the wine tasting. When we're back in Rome, we'll do it again!"

"I can’t say enough about this excursion. We made 3 amazing pastas, followed by wine tasting and a tour of the property. The property is absolutely beautiful. We then had lunch and lots of wine and entertainment. It was honestly the greatest day. It was an easy 20 minute train ride from Rome and we were picked up at the station in a very comfortable van. We had our 21 and 23 year old with us and they really enjoyed the day. Highly recommend!!"
"The most amazing experience from our whole Frascati trip! Such warm people, such fun class, the view was breathtaking and the food and the wine were amazing! Totally recommend!"
"Amazing 10/10 for the host and the guide, very kind and fun to listen to, informative and real tasty Highly recommend"
"My sister and I came to Italy for a 10-day sister trip, and this experience was one of the absolute highlights of our journey. From the moment our host picked us up at the train station, we knew it would be special. She was hilarious, joyful, and made everyone feel so welcome. The sweet woman who taught us to make pasta was adorable, kind, and such a wonderful teacher. We loved every minute — making fresh pasta, drinking wine, looking out at the vineyard, hearing stories from others, and enjoying the magical atmosphere. And wow… the food was delicious! The live music made the evening even more special. When I think back on our Italy trip, this will be one of the memories I treasure most. More than a cooking class — it was an unforgettable Italian experience."

"Lots of fun and an amazing experience. Highly recommend this activity"

Frascati Pasta Class and Wine Tasting: Frequently Asked Questions
What you cook, how long it takes, diets, getting there from Rome and the wine you drink.
The Pasta Masterclass & Wine Tour in the Vineyard lasts about 4 hours from Frascati station: the class, a tasting, a walk through the vineyards and cellar, and lunch. Add 30 to 31 minutes on the train each way from Roma Termini. On the 9:49 from Termini you meet the hosts around 10:20, so the day leaves you back in Rome in the afternoon.
The chef teaches three traditional local pastas from scratch: ravioli stuffed with local ingredients, fettuccine and maltagliati. You eat all three at lunch after a large appetizer of seasonal local food, with Frascati wine and water. The listing says the chef passes on tips he learned from his grandmother, and an apron is part of the class.
Yes, and in half a day. The Frascati pasta masterclass combines the class with a guided tasting of the family's wines and olive oil and a vineyard walk, about 4 hours from Frascati station, which is 30 minutes from Termini by train. It costs from $100 per person, with 4.9 from 183 GetYourGuide reviews. Prices checked October 2026.
Take the regional train from Roma Termini to Frascati: €2.10 each way, 30 to 31 minutes. The hosts suggest the 9:49 on weekdays and the 9:54 on Sundays, and meet you outside the station. On Saturdays take the 10:14 to Tor Vergata station instead. Coming by car or taxi? Email the hosts after booking for the farmhouse address. See our train guide.
Yes. The listing says the chef's lunch can be vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free friendly if you tell the hosts when you book. It does not describe a separate kitchen or flour-free workspace, so if you have celiac disease or a severe allergy, message the hosts before you pay and ask how they handle it during the class itself.
The sweet Frascati has its own name, Cannellino di Frascati DOCG. A bottle labelled Frascati or Frascati Superiore is not the sweet style. On the pasta class you taste the family's Frascati Superiore DOCG whites and Vagnolo, an IGP red made entirely from Cesanese, and you drink Frascati with lunch. Both DOCGs date from 2011.
Frascati is a white wine made mainly from Malvasia, which must make up at least 70% of the blend, with grapes such as Trebbiano, Greco, Bellone or Bombino for the rest. The vineyards lie on the northern slopes of the Colli Albani in volcanic soil, and wine has been made in these hills since ancient Tusculum. Our Frascati wine tours page covers the tastings.
The class costs from $100 per person on GetYourGuide, checked October 2026. The train is extra: €2.10 each way from Termini, so €4.20 for the round trip, or slightly less on Saturdays, when the hosts quote €1.50 for the outbound ticket to Tor Vergata. Lunch, the tasting and the short drive between station and farmhouse are included.
The pasta masterclass is a small group limited to 15 participants, led by an English-speaking guide who is a licensed wine taster, with the farmhouse chef running the class. If you want a smaller group without cooking, the Your Local X Frascati tour caps its group at 11 and pairs a winery visit with lunch at an osteria in town, from $122 per person.
No pasta class is listed. The Old Frascati Food & Wine half day tours a 16th-century family vineyard with three wines, walks you through Frascati tasting local products such as slow-roasted pork, and ends with lunch at an osteria. It costs from $106 per person for about 4.5 hours. For hands-on cooking, book the pasta masterclass instead.
Not a hands-on one. The Montepulciano and Pienza day with lunch and wines includes a fresh pasta-making demonstration at the winery, and the Pienza and Civita di Bagnoregio day includes a handmade pici demonstration. You watch on both, and both are coach days of about 11 to 12 hours. Compare them on our Tuscany wine tours page.
